“Put Me To Sleep” - Porcelain Raft

If you paid rapt attention to music in 2011, Mauro Remiddi’s sound is going to initially sound pretty similar to some of last year’s greatest triumphs. Even his touring schedule hints at this: Remiddi is not only accompanying M83 on tour this year, but also the Smith Westerns, and the fine collection of Trevor Powers’ compositions known as Youth Lagoon. Add Washed Out to that menagerie of similar artists and you’ve effectively established a cheap summary of Porcelain Raft’s latest effort Strange Weekend. I don’t mean to do a disservice to Remiddi’s craft by listing its kindred—“Put Me To Sleep” may strike pleasant memories of Anthony Gonzalez, but the crisp beat that unfolds into the sanguine chorus is assuredly of Remiddi’s own accomplished workmanship.
